I made an engine out landing on I-70 today. I had taken off from KEYE
at about 3:00 PM and got cleared for 7,000 to my destination on an IFR
flight plan when the engine started running rough. I made the mixture a
little rich, but the engine stopped making power and then silence. I
picked up the checklist and started going thru it. Set it to best
glide, selected I-70 East bound as landing site as it had lighter
traffic than West bound and started going thru the check list items.
Tried two restarts, prop was wind milling , remembered to lower the
gear, opened the door and squeaked it in between two cars. Pulled over
and got out of the plane. The knees started shaking uncontrollably and
had to sit down and stayed that way until the police showed up.
I
made it a point to give an interview to the local channels before some
body said something stupid. But they did manage to add their own
"facts" to the story.....
Mother Earth, I love you !!!!
