Rid was great and successful. We had a great rid that started in San Bernardino Sheriff main office all the way to Big Bear. We were escorted by Sheriff Helicopter and Motorcycle and they stoped all the traffic for us. At the end we had a great BBQ. We had a good time and we are glad to see they were able to raise over 16000.00 for charity.

Air France Flight 447:

A detailed meteorological analysis

by Tim Vasquez
Revised June 4, 2009

Some notes as of June 4, 2009:

This study was revised extensively on June 4 to factor in new meteorological information that's been assimilated. There are some awesome new graphics in this revision. As for the findings, they are not much different; instability with this MCS (mesoscale convective system) has been found to not be exceptionally strong, though turbulence still appears to be the leading candidate as a weather-related factor. Lightning would be the other one, though I absolutely cannot vouch for whether the A330 is a vulnerable aircraft or not. As is my policy I am sticking only to what I know, and will not address any issues of aircraft design, CRM, or flight procedures as crash factors. I will leave that to great sites like the airliners.net forums to debate on.

Attention media: I have NOT forecasted for Air Force One. An astute reader clued me in to a sentence here that read "...forecasting for the Air Force. One of my..." and I think a number of speed-reading journalists didn't see the punctuation. I have adjusted the sentence so it's not so confusing. Many thanks to SAR Pilot Seagull Tango for spotting this error.

Finally, here is an ocean bottom map at the projected 0215Z crash location; it is from http://topex.ucsd.edu/. I can't find precise depth information but it looks to be about 13,000 ft in the Atlantic rift zone. I'm hoping we get those FDRs and CVRs up safe so the valuable lessons from this crash can be unravelled.

General aviation is being threatened by public pressure, onerous secur ity measures, and the possibility of user fees. It’s time we take a united stand to inform policymakers, the media, and the public of the value of GA. They need to understand that it is vital to keeping America strong.
Today, AOPA is launching an all-out campaign, General Aviation Serves America, to spread the news that this is an industry that helps save lives, brings business to smaller communities, and transports goods and services to areas inaccessible by other modes of transportation.
“It’s time for us to let policymakers, opinion leaders, and the American public know who we are and what we do,” said AOPA President Craig Fuller.
This campaign, which depends on the participation of each and every pilot, aircraft owner, and AOPA member, is designed to improve the perception of GA, correct misconceptions, and battle threats such as user fees, tax increases, and onerous security regulations.
Everyday pilots are sharing their stories alongside famous actors who also depend on GA. Check out these two commercials that will be airing in key locations across the country.

These ads will initially appear in the Washington, D.C., area and online, while print ads will be running in various publications and appearing at select airports. We’ve also just launched a Web site, www.GAServesAmerica.com, to prominently feature all that GA does.
But that’s not enough. We need your continued support to expand and sustain this important initiative beyond Washington, D.C. Please share this e-mail and the GA Serves America Web site with your friends. Take a stand, and let them know the importance of GA!
Then, go a step further: Share your GA story with us, and consider making a donation to this campaign to ensure that we all have a bright future in an industry we—and all Americans—depend on every day.
